First time Zoom Video Communications users should ensure that your computer or mobile device camera, microphone and speakers are properly configured prior to the scheduled event. The Zoom system has a non-interactive test URL, (i.e., no live staff will be involved to test with you) to assist with this process. Any required Zoom software will download automatically when you start or join your first Zoom meeting. Close and logout of all other webconference/social media programs prior to launching zoom. This will ensure that your local equipment resources are available for Zoom utilization.
It is highly recommended that you test from the location, computer/mobile device, and internet service provider to be used for the actual event. A wired internet connection is preferred over wireless service whenever possible to ensure optimal interaction between yourself and other participants. Google Chrome is the preferred Web Browser for Zoom use. The most common technical issues are incorrect audio and video device configuration, low/poor Internet bandwidth, ambient local environmental noise (fans, animals, etc.) transmitted by your microphone, and low/no power on laptop or mobile devices. Zoom Video Communications ‘Cloud Meetings’ app is available on ‘Google Play’ and enables Smart Phone / Mobile Devices to join Zoom meeting sessions.
To test Zoom, navigate to www.zoom.us/test webpage and then:
1) Click the “join ” box.
2) New users may view the Zoom Support documents for your specific equipment located at: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/categories/200101697
3) Click on “Join Audio Conference by Computer”.
4) The microphone and camera icons located in the bottom left of the Zoom Meeting screen should be unmuted (no visible red diagonal line), if muted just click to unmute/start.. Click on the ^ symbol located to the right of the microphone and or camera symbol if your computer has multiple audio/video devices connected.
5) Ensure that the speakers, microphone, and camera selected in Zoom settings are the same units you plan to use during your program. Test the audio to confirm the microphone and speakers are operating correctly.
6) Once you have finished testing, use the “Leave meeting” button to exit.
